Working with predominantly oil, Aili creates scenes that capture the emotions within our universal experiences; her works serve as a window into our shared humanity, experiences, and memory.

I’m inspired to create art because I want to capture the universality of everyday experiences and emotions. I want to make art with themes that people can at least recognize, if not personally relate to.

At the Beach

My favorite work is the painting of the girls on the beach. I had a lot of fun painting it and I think the joy really translates onto the canvas, which is exactly what I was going for. People are my favorite thing to paint.

Mom

“My pieces are almost always emotionally charged– I make a lot of autobiographical works inspired by emotionally salient experiences I’ve had.

Socially, I frequently find myself returning to the concept of the struggles of women and girls growing up in a society that equates worth with physical appearance. “

Suzanne

This painting is meant to address societal stigma surrounding aging and how I think to age is actually a beautiful thing.

Grown Ups

I don’t really believe in being “good” at art. I think that everyone can and should create art! The most important thing is that it brings you joy.

I’m an oil paint girl forever! I sometimes dabble in oil pastels and acrylic paint too. I’d really like to work on gaining a base knowledge of all the different ways to apply oil paint to a canvas; all the different methods and outcomes. I’ve also been enjoying collaging with fabrics and sewing in combination with painting, and I plan to continue experimenting with this idea in the future.

I hope to make art for the rest of my life. College wise, I plan to double major with one major in Studio Art. No matter the direction life takes me, I’m sure art will be a part of me and what I do forever.
