Sarah turns the 2-D space of a canvas into one that’s dynamic, masterfully playing with color, light, space, and depth to express the intimacy within daily life.

I love the feeling of creation, seeing something created by my own two hands.

It’s therapeutic, honestly, not only to be able to express strong emotions through art, but the act of drawing and painting itself is very calming. I plan on majoring in art history in college, and I want to work in museums. I still want to pursue painting on my own time in the future, even if it’s not my career.

My favorite painting that I’ve done would probably be “Skeleton Dance”, which I made last year. I spent so much time on it that I ended up handing in the painting way late, but I’m glad that I did because I’m very happy with the result.

Some of the paintings are from last year’s classes, and some are from this year. I tend to be drawn to subjects that are close to me, like my friends, my room, and spaces that I spend a lot of time in. “Bakery Sink at Sunset” for instance, is a bakery at the ice cream shop I worked at over the summer, so it made it easier to put emotion into the piece. I feel like I really put a lot of intimate feeling into the pieces. This intimate feeling is really important to me, and it intrigues me when I look at other art.
